Good news for the four losing quarter-finalists in this year’s Africa Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships in Yaounde, Cameroon.
Five Uganda pugilists Ssemudu Muzamir, Mukiibi Idris, Wasswa Amir Ssali, Mulungi Khassim and captain Tukamuhebwa Joshua are one step away from money zone, twelve Bombers in money bracket, Geko Solomon, Erina Namutebi and Grace Nankiga will kick start this year continental campaign in semis [medal bracket], Ukasha Matovu,Okello Ronald, Baraka James, Kayiwa Lawrence, Nandaula Zahara, Ndagire Sharua musah, Najjemba Nadia, Emily Nakalema and Kalema Joseph will start on last eight stage.
The secretary of Competitions Committee Lukelo Willilo said yesterday in order to spread the $1million prize money at stake, the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) has decided to pay each of the four losing quarter-finalists $1,250.
With the latest development, the gold medallists’ earlier prize money of $20,000 has been slashed to $15,000.
“The silver medal winners and the two bronze medallists’ prize money remains the same at 10,000 dollars and 5000 dollars respectively,” said Willilo.
