Over 200 participants turned for the 15th edition of Som inter-project Chess championship.
This is the 15th edition of Som inter-project Chess championship since 2004 and it has attracted over 200 participants from different centers in the country, from Hoima, Masaka, Gulu, and others.
The championship is underway in the Sports Outreach Resource Center along Mityana road.
The last edition was held in 2019 that attracted over 500 players. The tournament did not take place for the two years 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19 pandemic. This year’s edition has further accommodated participants from Rwanda and Kenya in coordination with the concerned federations.
According to Robert Katende the founder of Som Chess Academy the tournament has two categories of players, 90 rated and unrated players.
Katende confirmed that it is a four days tournament and the climax will be on Thursday. ” On Thursday we shall be closing and different awards will be given to winners and they include medals, trophies, and scholarships to best performers” he said
The organisation promotes talents, implements discipline, help orphans with education, bail out the disabled with hope of being able and important like others.
