Two perish in fatal accident along Lira- kotido road.

Two people were reportedly died in an accident that happened on 24th Dec 2023 at around 13:00 hours in Akor village along Lira-Apala road.

The deceased have been identified as Ogwal Joshua aged 34 yrs old and Acen Penina aged 12 yrs old, all are resident of Oleng Biro cell, Amuca ward, Lira-City West Division.

S. P Jimmy Patrick Okema North kyoga police spokesman said it is alleged that Motor Vehicle Reg. No. UBF 306D while coming from Apala side heading towards Lira Town, the driver tried to over take another motor vehicle while in a terrible speed, and in the process he lost control and knocked a Motorcycle Reg. UEW 758R which was on the opposite direction, killing the rider one Ogwal Joshua instantly and a juvenile passenger identified as Acen Penina died on arrival later at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.

The driver however immediately fled the scene after the accident.

Police was notified, scene visited by the traffic officers from Lira-City CPS. Sketch plan drawn and some statements recorded from eye witnesses, while
dead bodies have been conveyed to the mortuary at Lira regional referral hospital pending postmortem.

Both motor vehicles have were taken to the station and parked pending IOV inspection.
“This is yet another unfortunate incident, we advised the driver to report himself to any nearest police station for statement recording to answer charges against him. But also warn members of the public to be extra careful while on the road, they should observe traffic regulations.
