Alebtong District chairman castigates contract award procedures by government.
Alebtong District chairman who is also the chairperson of LCV chairpersons in Lango, Dickens Kennedy Odongo has castigated the process used be government in award of contracts.
DK Odongo was yesterday speaking at a meeting organized by Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority Appeal Tribunal held at Magarita Palace Hotel to discuss the regulations regarding award of contracts.
DK Odongo said in most cases, contracts for construction of schools and health facilities are awarded to an individual contractor who ends up doing shoddy work and at times abandoning the project.
DK Odongo said sometimes they face harassment and intimidation while following up on implementation of these projects.
The Registrar of Procurementand Disposal of Public Assets Authority Appeal Tribunal Atiku Saki Mansoor said some of these contracts were directed to be awarded to the UPDF by the president and as PPDA appeal Tribunal they have no say about them.
Resident City Commissioner of Lira, Lawrence Egole said yesterday’s meeting will guide the contractor and government on effective implementation of the projects.
