Justice Rubby Opio Aweri to be buried on Friday.

The Organizing Committee for the burial of fallen Justice Rubby Opio Aweri has released the final send off program for the former Supreme Court judge.

According to the program which was released by the national organizing committee, Rubby Opio Aweri who also served as the chief inspector of courts will be laid to rest on Friday 16th December 2022 at his ancestral home in Acung apenyi cell, Kachung western ward, Agwata Town Council, Dokolo District.

On Monday 12th December 2022, the body will be taken to the Judiciary headquarters for judicial officers and officers of court to pay their last respect and later in the evening the body will be taken home in Kawanda, Kampala for a night vigil.

There will be a funeral service at All Saints Cathedral Nakasero on Tuesday 13th  December 2022 and thereafter departs for Lira where a vigil will be held at his home located in senior quarters, Lira City East Division.

On Wednesday 14th December 2022, the body of the late will be taken to Lira City Hall for Lango leaders to pay tribute and later in the afternoon there will be a funeral service at St Augustine Church Barogole before the body departs for Agwata, Dokolo District.

He will be laid to rest on Friday 16th December 2022, at Acung apenyi cell, Kachung Western Ward, Agwata Town Council, Dokolo District.

According to Babalanda, they are making all the necessary preparations to ensure a descent and befitting burial for the fallen Supreme Court judge.

Justice Rubby Aweri 69, died Wednesday morning from Mulago national referral hospital where he was admitted two weeks ago to receive treatment according to the Judiciary.

Justice Aweri Opio was born in Agwata, Dokolo District in 1953.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws from Makerere University, in Kampala.

He also holds a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, also in Kampala.

His Master of Laws was also obtained from Makerere University.

His career started in 1982, as a legal assistant in Soroti District. In 1983, Opio Aweri was appointed a Grade One magistrate.

He gradually rose through the ranks and in 1998, was appointed a judge of the High Court. In 2014, he was promoted to the Uganda Court of Appeal.

In September 2015, he was elevated to the Supreme Court of Uganda in August 2017, the Judiciary named him as the new Chief Inspector of Courts on a three-year term.

Rubby Opio Aweri at the time of his death was serving as the Chancellor of Uganda Pentecostal University in Fort portal City and chairperson board of governors of Amach complex SS in Lira district.
