Lightning strike killed four family members in Lira district
A lightning strike during a downpour killed four family members in Ayami Sub County, Lira District, over the weekend , The incident occurred at around 6pm on March 25, when a lightning bolt struck the grass-thatched hut they were sheltering in, setting it ablaze.
According to Thomas Obur, the Ayami LC3 chairman, the deceased individuals have been identified as Jimmy Obong (32), Jenifer Acio (26), Brian Opok (5), and Brian Okum (14), who was Acio’s brother. Obong had been visiting his sister-in-law in Nga-akwia Village in Walela Parish at the time of the tragedy.
Alex Odongo, the owner of the home, was away delivering cassava cuttings to his mother-in-law in the neighbouring Ogur Sub County when the incident occurred.
Only Godrine Opio managed to escape unharmed and informed the LC1 chairman of the tragic events. The four individuals were being rushed to Ogur Health Centre IV for treatment, but they died on the way.
Meanwhile police from Lira district visit where the incident happened, and the deceased body’s were handed over for burial.
