Lira City leaders have decried delays by the government to construct Akii Bua Stadium.

Leaders of Lira City and District have decried delays by the government to construct Akii Bua Stadium.

Speaking at a meeting with the parliamentary committee on education and sports during their visit to Akii Bua Stadium yesterday, Lira City mayor, Sam Atul said the construction of the stadium has over delayed, calling on government to expedite its construction to benefit the people of Lango.

Lira District chairman, RCM Okello Orik said the planned construction of Akii Bua has become rhetoric and is affecting promotion of sports activities in Lango.

Otuke East MP Julius Acon said they are not yet sure on whether or not, government will construct Akii Bua as no update has been given by government pertaining to the matter.

Lira District woman MP, Linda Agnes Auma said they plan to compel parliament to set aside a budget for construction of Akii Bua stadium as opposed to waiting for funding from China government.

The assistant commissioner of sports in ministry of education and sports, Sam Odongo said the construction of Akii Bua stadium will cost 48 million dollars and is to be funded by the China government.

The chairperson of Parliamentary committee on education and sports, Paparu Lillian Obiale said their visit was to assess the status of Akii Bua stadium and they will report their findings to parliament for debate.

Lira RCC Lawrence Egole said the construction of Akii Bua stadium will promote sports in Lango where sports is much cherished.
