Mufti Prays for Slain Vlogger, Warns Against Hate Speech

His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, has prayed for the departed soul of Ibrahim Tusubira, a popular social media Vlogger alias Isma Olaxess or Jjajja Iculi, who was shot dead by unknown assailants at Kyanja on the outskirts of Kampala City last weekend. His remains were buried at Katwe village, Nkokonjeru in Mukono District on Sunday afternoon.

During the weekly UMSC National Management Committee meeting held at his office in UMSC Headquarters, Old Kampala May 8th, 2023, Sheikh Mubaje prayed to Almighty Allah to bless the deceased’s soul with grace and forgiveness for his iniquities because, as a celebrity, he did not detach himself from exhibiting his firm belief in the Islamic faith. The Mufti cautioned all bloggers to always measure and do research before uttering words when communicating on any matter for public consumption to avoid misinterpretation, especially words that may incite violence or inculcate hate in the communities.

“According to divine teachings as reported from Prophet Muhammad, it is unbecoming for a Muslim faithful to hurl insults towards anyone who has died, as is now rampantly used by some social media users,” he said. In the same meeting, Mufti explained what transpired in the just-concluded UMSC Joint Session Committee held on May 5th, 2023. He noted that several resolutions were passed, including the appointment of Hon. Muhammad Ali Aluma as the acting UMSC Secretary-General to replace Hon. Dr. Ramathan Mugalu, whose seven-year term expired.
“Hon. Aluma will hold the Office in an acting position for a period not exceeding 3 months from the date of appointment, pending the process of sourcing a substantive office bearer,” he said. He also unveiled Hon. Aluma to the members amidst chants of Allahu Akbar – Almighty Allah is Greatest. Aluma pledged to strengthen team spirit among the Departmental Heads for the purpose of yielding tangible transformation of the UMSC structure.

The meeting ended with rounds of applause towards Dr. Mugalu for the noble services he rendered towards the UMSC activities.

In attendance were His Eminence Sheikh Abdallah Ibrahim Ssemambo Tamusuza, the Deputy Mufti, and His Eminence Sheikh M
Waiswa, the 2nd Deputy.
