SUSPECTED KENYAN VEHICLE INTERCEPTED IN LIRA CITY.

Police at CPS Lira, together with the Flying Squad, have intercepted a suspected stolen vehicle at Adwali Cell and injured three occupants from Adwali cell,Boroboro Ward, Lira-City East Division.

According to SP Jimmy Patrick Okema the North Kyoga police mouthpiece, the vehicle in question with Reg No KDH 790K Toyota Land Cruiser black in color suspected stolen from Kenya under Ref OB 24/9/11/2023 of Karuri Police Station in Nairobi was suspected to have been driven to Uganda by some wrong elements.

Okema says all the police stations were alerted from Busia, Tororo, Mbale, Soroti, and Lira as per the reading in the tracking system, which was showing movement of the said vehicle

On receipt of this information, the DPC-Lira-City CPS led a team of flying squad under SD Ref 05/09/11/2023 and mounted a check point at Adwali Cell along the Lira-Soroti highway.

He said when the vehicle was flagged down, the driver refused to stop instead of increasing the speed, which forced the officers to respond by firing some bullets at the vehicle targeting the tyres.
As fate would have it, three of the occupants got injured in the process plus one of the police personnel.

Victims of the bullet wounds have been identified as George Otyato 49 ,a resident of Awendo in Migoli County in Kenya , another person is
Hussein Akako Husein 54 , from Tororo-Malaba, including a one
Paul Omara( not the MP)whose age was not readily established.
He is a resident of Oyugisi Homa Bay County in Kenya.

The affected police personnel have been identified as Tonny Ebong, currently admitted at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.

It’s also alleged that they replaced the registration number plate with the Ugandan one UBE 665K to confuse the security.

This is how they evaded the police in Dokolo and other places.

The vehicle has been impounded and parked at Lira-City CPS pending further investigation.

A man-hunt has been launched for one of the suspects who escaped during the fracas at the police checkpoint.
