Dokolo- Apac districts rated leading in the country with highest malaria burden. Report.

Dokolo- Apac district is rated the leading district in the country with highest malaria burden, according to a report from the Ministry of Health. Apac also remains the leading district in malaria infection the report adds.

Other districts in Lango with red lights in malaria prevalence are Dokolo and Amolatar while neighboring district of Kalaki and Kaberamaido are also among the top ten leading districts with malaria cases in the country.

This was disclosed by Dr. Myers Lugemwa, the National Malaria Control officer at the Ministry of Health during a sensitization program held on Thursday at Dokolo town council hall on Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS).

In Dokolo district, Indoor Residual Spraying will be implemented in selected Sub Counties of Dokolo, Amwoma, Okwongodul, Adeknino, Kangai and Adok where Malaria cases are mostly registered.

The Assistant District Health Officer Dokolo Eugine Odongo who represented the District Health Officer (DHO) at the meeting concurred with the Ministry of Health report saying the disease is at an alarming rate adding that it is the main illness the department was tackling.

Tom Richard Opio, the District Vector Control Officer who is also the Coordinator for IRS program in the district confirmed that with the support from the global fund, the Ministry of Health has identified five other districts where the program will be implemented.

Opio said the exercise will start on 7 November 2022. According to health experts, the Flordorafusion pesticide is recommended and is said to have no bad smell and other negative human side effects.

The Residents District Commissioner Barbara Akech in her opening remarks urged the local leaders in the affected sub-counties to rally the community to embrace the program.

Denis Daramoi Bob, the District Vice Chairperson urged the ministry to consider other sub -Counties in Dokolo which have been left out.
